In cooperation with the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism in The Hague I published a new research report on jihadist modus operandi. We often associate jihadist terrorism with suicide attacks, but in this report I try to demonstrate that most jihadist attacks in recent years in the West were not suicide attacks. Over the period 2004-2017 the number of suicide attacks has been fairly stable, but there have been marked increases in two types of attack in which the perpetrator does not kill himself. The last two sections of the report cover the explanations and the policy implications of this trend towards more non-suicide attacks. The report is available for download here.
