A couple of days ago Aspenia Online published a piece I wrote about Western foreign fighters in Syria. Many government officials and analysts assume that foreign fighters returning to their home countries in the West pose serious terrorist threats, but I believe this threat perception is based on a flawed reading of the motivations of those who want to join the fight against the Assad regime.
