Teun van Dongen is an independent analyst and author in the field of terrorism and extremism. Previously, he worked as a policy analyst at The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies (HCSS), the Verwey-Jonker Institute and the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism. He has also been a lecturer at Leiden University, the Inholland University of Applied Sciences and the Free University. Teun regularly writes for academic journals, newspapers and international affairs magazines. He holds a PhD degree from Leiden University, which he gained by writing a doctoral dissertation on counterterrorism effectiveness. He also published two books, one about why people engage in terrorist activities (Radicalisering ontrafeld) and one about Western counterterrorism in the post-9/11 era.
